Medications: Medications are often recommended as a first line treatment for many orthopedic complaints. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) are one of the most prescribed medications. These can be taken over the counter (OTC) or a stronger NSAID medication may be prescribed. With an advanced electronic medical record system, medications will be sent the pharmacy on file. Dr. Shah does not routinely prescribe narcotic medication for non-operative pathologies.

Please remember, medications requiring a higher dose and frequency are probably best prescribed and followed by your primary care physician. If you have a known medical condition or have liver or kidney disease, it would be best to consult your primary care physician prior to taking medications. Maximum dosing can vary from patient to patient, so a thorough understanding of your health is paramount prior to taking medications.

Physical Therapy: Physical therapy is often recommended to treat various musculoskeletal may be prescribed at your visit. If you are prescribed physical therapy during today’s visit, we will print out a physical therapy prescription and provide you with various Banner Select locations. We work closely with our therapists, who are familiar with our treatment protocols and instructions.

Advanced Imaging (MRI, CT scan, or Ultrasound): In addition to x-rays in our office it may be necessary to obtain advanced imaging such as an MRI, CT scan, or ultrasound to help us diagnose your medical issue. If this is the case, we will print out a prescription for the imaging request that you can take with you to an imaging center. These imaging procedures are conducted at imaging centers, not at your visit today.

The imaging request will be processed through Banner Imaging, and you will be called to schedule your appointment. If you do not receive a call within three days, please contact Banner Imaging (480-610-7400), Simon Med Imaging (866-614-8555), or Scottsdale Medical Imaging (480-425-5030) directly to make an appointment. It is much easier for us to review the imaging if you obtain the imaging at one of these centers as we have access to these images through online portals. If you attend any other imaging center, you will need to bring a copy of your medical imaging and report on a CD with you to your follow up appointment.

We look forward to working with and treating you, and we hope you have an excellent experience in our practice.
